What are the causes of scars
Scars may be due to many reasons, chief amongst them Accidents, surgery, burns and acne. The prominent scars often scar the mind too.

How much improvement is possible with treatment
Scars cannot be erased completely but many of them can be made inconspicuous.

When should the scar be treated
When the scar occurs, initially anti-scar ointments and or silicon gel sheeting and pressure garments are applied. Usually a period of around six months or more is allowed before the definitive treatment of scars so that the tissues become mature.

What is the treatment of scars
The treatment option is decided depending upon the size, position and the type of scar. Surgical treatment is also called as scar revision. Commonly, scar tissue is removed and one is left with a fine line. In most cases the procedure is done under local anaesthesia so that no admission is required.

Non-surgical treatment is done in cases where surgical treatment is not possible. Commonly fractional laser resurfacing is used. The crusts come off after a few days time. Typically 2-4 sittings are required.
