Tattoo Removal

Sometimes we get tattoos on impulse and regret later on. However there are options to get rid of it

What types of tattoos can be removed?
The types of tattoos that can be removed by laser are professional, amateur (homemade), traumatic, surgical and cosmetic tattoos

Can the color of the tattoo ink affect the results of laser tattoo removal?
Yes. Some inks respond better than others. While the black and blue pigments are easier to remove, the green, red and yellow pigments tend to be more difficult

How does laser tattoo removal work?
Tattoo removal lasers direct energy toward the ink in the skin using pulses of highly concentrated laser beams. The rapid absorption of the light energy fractures the tattoo ink into tiny particles, which is then easily removed by the body’s scavenger cells. The laser selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo while leaving the surround skin unharmed, causing the tattoo to either fade or disappear completely.

How many laser tattoo removal treatments will I need to remove my tattoo

The removal of an unwanted tattoo will require multiple treatment sessions. The number of laser tattoo removal treatments depends on the amount, color and type of tattoo ink used, the depth of tattoo ink placed into the skin, and the method of tattoo application

Is the treatment Painful
There is only a mild pain or the feel of a snap. Cold air is constantly blown on to the area during the treatment to provide pain relief. In individuals who are very sensitive to pain, numbing cream can be applied before the procedure

What final result can I expect
Because of the variables involved final results may vary from person to person. The tattoo may either disappear completely or a minor halo may remain

Surgical removal of Tattoos
It is required for those who want quick results as laser removal requires a long time period because of multiple sittings. In the case of small tattoos, after numbing the tattooed area with local anaesthetic, the tattoo is surgically excise and the edges of skin gap which has been created by surgical removal of the tattoo are stitched up. Usually the whole tattoo is removed in one session but larger tattoos might need two or more sessions to be removed completely.

If the tattoo size is very large, it is surgically removed and the area is covered with a skin graft. Over time the grafted area settles and there is just a slight colour difference from the adjoining skin.
