What are the types of acne Scars
Moderate to severe Acne often ends up in scarring, causing lot of distress. Mostly the scars are usually of depressed type and one may see pits of various types and sizes. Sometimes, the scars are hypertrophic and appear as raised scars. In addition, there may be persistent redness or pigmentation.
What are the treatment options
Before undertaking the treatment, active acne is controlled with the help of appropriate medicines. It is not possible to make the skin absolutely normal but with the newer methods, substantial improvement is possible.
For mild scars- Chemical Peeling, Microdermabrasion, Intense Pulsed Light and Fractional Erbium Glass Laser are the different techniques which are employed in our centre. All of them are nearly painless and have minimal or nil downtime.
For deeper scars- A combination of Subcision and Fractional laser is used. After numbing the area with local anaesthesia, Fractional Carbon dioxide Laser or Fractional Erbium:YAG Laser is focussed on the scars. In addition, with a procedure called subcision, the depressed scars are elevated with a special needle.
What are the expected results
A substantial degree of improvement is usually seen and the skin looks smoother and softer. However it is not possible to make a skin with deep pits look absolutely normal.
What are the post treatment precautions
Post treatment, one needs to use the prescribed creams for a few weeks. Strict sun protection is also required.
